Subject: The Conspiracy Behind Christina Aguilera’s ‘Bionic’ Bomb Thu Aug 04, 2011 10:00 pm
In March of 2010, Chicago radio programmers and deejays got an early listen to Christina’s new album Bionic. The response was very positive, but folks tied to Interscope Records (Lady Gaga’s record company) kept insisting that the record was a bomb.
In fact, some of Lady Gaga’s handlers allegedly kept referring to Christina as “Floptina,” a name celebrity blogger Perez Hilton would eventually use. When the first single "Not Myself Tonight" arrived in April of 2010, initial response was positive. However, there were many people who called into radio stations to insult the song. “This was obviously the work of some anti-Christina street team doing this and not regular listeners. They concentrated on big markets like Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City and Miami," former program director Miles Petifer claims.
The video for “Not Myself Tonight” didn’t help the single. But it wasn’t as bad as Perez Hilton and Akon (another factor in the Christina Aguilera backlash) made it out to be. There were rumors spreading around that Akon (the one who discovered Lady Gaga) was telling everybody it was a ripoff of Madonna’s “Express Yourself.” This occurred even after Akon allegedly heard an early demo of “Born This Way,” which some say sounded more like the Madonna hit than the final version released in February of 2011.
“Perez Hilton was still angry at Christina Aguilera for making negative comments about his marketing partner Lady Gaga. He was out to get Christina from the very beginning. Unfortunately—then—Perez Hilton still had an influence on the music industry. Now, he is seen as an absolute joke and Lady Gaga’s career is going down faster than the atomic bomb. The fact that her album was practically given away for free proves this,” says a music industry insider.
Bionic was released on June 24, 2010 to mixed reviews. However, reviewers had already been told by music industry “insiders” (a.k.a. ‘friends’ of Lady Gaga) that the album was a flop. There was no way the album could have received objective reviews.
Program Director Jared Stelling believes the Christina Aguilera backlash was the absolute work of Lady Gaga and her friends. “You would not believe how the industry works and how much power one star has to bring another down. A couple years back, Mariah Carey hired a couple journalists to write negative things about Madonna and her tour. One of the writers worked for MSN and was fired for her payola article later that year . Luckily, that didn’t stop Madonna from selling tickets. Unfortunately, Christina couldn’t even launch a tour because of the backlash. It’s pretty pathetic. However, karma exists and right now, Lady Gaga is sinking faster than the Titanic.”

I am sorry but I don't buy this. Bionic was an ok album but not nearly as great as it could have been. A lot of music was pretty mediocre except for a few songs. If you mix that with a poor promotional structure its bound to fail. Has nothing to do with Gaga.

This plus a rushed tour, a stale look & all of her peers doing futuristic music much better. Clearly Christina was in a bad state of being with the stress of her marital problems with Jordan. It just all brewed together to make a flop. Hopefully she has learned from her mistakes, seen that she needs to compromise and hopefully her team will get their heads out of their asses and into the game this time around.

Everyone get over Bionic already. Some stans keep discussing it over and over and over again more than a year after. Clearly Christina moved on, she doesn't care anymore and is looking forward to the next project. Some stans should do the same and stop living in what could have been, what should have been or what was done wrong. It's annoying.

Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda...
That's about all the stans seem to talk about anymore.
Does Christina have to wear a "Bionic Is Dead" shirt before everybody will actually LET IT DIE??

Stans?
The article a load of nonesense. Not suprisingly people are latching onto it. Looking for any reason, no matter how ridiculous why Bionic didn't sell well last year.
Putting aside the fact that this person even says himself that there's no proof, why would they sabotage someone who according to article they consider a flop?

If you truly listen to bionic it was nowhere near a bad album as they called it, for those who don't believe that her album was sabotaged. Look at the facts. You had people before the first single ever came out such as Akon, bad mouthing Christina in Vibe magazine saying she was trying to copy Gaga, then you turn around and in general most people were positive about Not Myself Tonight there was nothing wrong with that song and lyrically it was a lot better than most of her peers uptempos including Gaga. Even Perez hilton liked the song, then you noticed the tide start to turn. I know for a fact that KiisFM boycott's Christina Aguilera. Because they refuse to play her on my station here, and how often do you all here Christina on the radio and you can't say that it's because it was a bad song because we hear horrible songs and artist on the radio everyday. For those of you that are delusional about Gaga you may need to be reminded that she pushed back the release of her record and strung along her old album with an absurd amount of singles and one of those singles she waited until the release of Christina's album and started promoting the premiere of her video the following week of Christina's album release when she had previously been looking and casting for that video in 2009. Then you see that she had all these other people speaking for over the comparisons, but Gaga never opened her mouth because she was getting all the positive attention. Then we saw Britney Spears prepare to drop her album and Gaga then pushes up the release date of her video to drop the same week as Britney's album and then claim "it's because she couldnt wait anymore." For those of you who don't see Gaga for the marketing monster she is you better wake up!

Well that's the thing with quality with anything, it's purely subjective.

That just establishes that if there was any sabotage that they would be likely suspects. But there's still no smoking gun.
Sorry but there was no conspiracy. Let it die.

I don't believe Lady Gaga had anything to do with it directly but I'm not saying she didn't have anything to do with it AT ALL, if it happened.
I know for A FACT that her label was advertising her image and her album as "the new artist Christina Aguilera copied" with ads/links on music websites. THAT'S a low move. Did Lady Gaga know that? Most likely, it's her label. Too much for respecting her as an artist. I'm not blaming her though, I'm just speculating.
Bionic was a good album or not, that's really subjective. In my opinion, it is Christina most inconsistent album to date but it did have potential and good material.
This is not the first time Interscope does something shady though. When Beyonce's Run The World came out, they were basically claiming that she had stolen Major Lazer's entire beat and just added lyrics, which is true but they HAD nothing to do with Beyoncé. It's as if RCA mentioned Lady Gaga on their twitter, it just doesn't have to do with anything. If we add that to the fact that Run The World came out around the time Judas/Born This Way album was going to be released, there's just something really tricky about that.
But again, I'm not blaming her. Business is business, I just think that IF she is indeed behind this, that's really unprofessional.

But if they were calling her Floptina as the article says, then obviously they didn't consider her a threat. You don't go around calling someone that if you fear them.
No, this article is false. Fans need to get over Bionic. She's moved on, and so should you.

I disagree. You call people mean things or even false things when you DO consider them a threat. You bring them down so they don't try to do anything that could mean bad to you. Haters insult Christina because they consider her a threat to their faves. Interscope was doing everything to bring down Christina's name because they KNEW that her name alone involved would cause controversy. They just jumped on the bangwagon of Christina copying her. If they didn't consider her a threat they wouldn't even CARE to mention her. Just like with Beyoncé's song, if they didn't consider her a threat to Gaga's music they wouldn't care to LET people KNOW that she was plagarizing.
And no one can tell if this is false or not. It's not a fact, sorry.
But I agree that everyone should move on and remember the Bionic era for the good it gave us instead of discussing what DIDN'T happen.

Bottom line is that this is a horrible scenario whether it's true or false.
We as a fan base are damned if it did happen and damned if it didn't.
If it is true and the speculations are coming from accurate sources then that means the music business as it was is gone and it's gone to sh*t. It's gotten to the point where it's a LITERAL dog eat dog world and you HAVE to pull and push your way to the top no matter who else it hurts or harms. That's a very sad situation.
On the other side of the coin though, if it's false (which is my personal opinion) then that goes to show that we have people in "high" places spreading horrible rumors out there causing Christina CONTINUED bad press. This is only fueling the seemingly never ending fire between fan groups among all the top female singers Christina, Britney, Beyonce, Gaga etc.
I've said this from the beginning, I don't get why everybody can't just agree to disagree respectfully, understand that everybody will have their favorites and that doesn't mean any girl is better than the next. It's all down to PREFERENCE! And by this date in 2011 EVERYBODY HAS COPIED EVERYBODY by now. Nothing is original. To me, that's what creative people do. They take things from other people and become INSPIRED by it. That doesn't mean they're copying or stealing anything. That just means they respected the original enough to try their hand at it.
Does no one remember that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" anymore?

I'm sick of all these dumb wars with fanbases and stuff. Why can't we just get along? That's too much to ask I guess. But I honestly can't think that Gaga would start this. In my opinion, it seems to me she respects other artists and has even said she "loves" Christina. And yeah, Christina was all like "I don't know if it's a man or woman" but Christina said that she liked what Gaga was doing.
I just couldn't see her doing that 'cause she was so on top of her game. But who knows. People do weird things.
